The theme for VBS this year was “The Miracles of Jesus.”  Each day touched on a miracle:  Jesus feeding of the 5000, Jesus healing the sick, Jesus walking on water and Jesus rising from the tomb.  Three counselors, Alan, Emily and Robin, from Camp Okoboji,  led our VBS on June 20-23.

Zion’s VBS concluded on Thursday evening with a closing program and a meal.  There was ringing with happy singing!  Marie Parrott and Lori Ullerich provided the meal after the closing program.  A meal of grilled hot dogs was served to 83 parents, grandparents and friends of the students.

Our total enrollment was 51 students with 6 families from Zion.  We also had 5 families attend from First Lutheran, Wiota and Holy Cross, Anita.  Denise Sharp, Janet Klute and Shirley Schramm formed the VBS committee with lots of volunteers from the church:  Connie Wiechmann, Marianne Fann, Wendy Finnell, Cindy Kreutzer, Joanne Pross, Pat Hansen, Sharon Sandhorst, Rosalee Cook, Fred Klute, Kolleen Pope, Kids Come First staff, Alice Davidson, Pastor Davidson, Janet King and Traci Schlueter.

Kenner and Randy Baxter hosted the 3 Camp Okoboji leaders in their home.  LWML provided lunch for the three counselors every day.  Zion circles provided snacks every day.

The counselors, along with the help of Janet Klute, completed a service project of weeding at the parsonage.  The counselors also assisted Kids Come First to an outing at Lewis Lake on Wednesday afternoon.  On Wednesday evening the counselors met with Zion’s youth, grades 6-12, playing Putt-Putt golf and grilling.

An addition to VBS this year was a water day!  Time was spent running through the sprinkler and throwing water balloons.  The kids loved it!

The Lord blessed us with children eager to hear the Word and lots of volunteers!  Thank you to all who made another VBS possible and successful– especially our Lord and Savior!
