Luke 18:14 – “I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Our works never impress God they are always lacking in some way, and they always fall short of perfection. So, there is no point in taking pride in our works. But a broken and contrite heart the Lord will not despise, and the works that flow from a broken and contrite heart are indeed pleasing to the Lord in and through Christ. These works will be used by the Lord for His purposes and to His glory.
Romans 10:15 – “And how are they to preach unless they are sent?”
The Word goes out to us each week in the Lord’s House. Indeed, every day and all around the world, the Word goes out wherever it is preached and read. This brings us great joy, but even more joy is derived from realizing God has blessed us with being part of this sending of the Word. From the blessings God gives us, we return a portion to Him in the Church for His work. And thus we are doubly blessed – we receive the Word, and we get to send it forth to others.
