Randy and Joanne Sandage Family

Joanne was born in Maryville, Missouri, and grew up on a farm north of Clarinda; she was the oldest of three children, one sister Deanne and one brother Alan.  She grew up on a grain and livestock farm and her family attended St. John’s Lutheran Church.   Joanne graduated from NW Missouri State, with an education degree.  She taught school at the secondary level in the NW Webster School District. She later worked for the Farm Service Agency in Fort Dodge.   Randy was born in Missouri Valley, IA, and grew up near Dunlap on a grain and livestock farm.  He had one older sister, who died of cancer and has three younger sisters still living in the area. Randy also attended NW Missouri State majoring in Agricultural Business. Randy played football and ran track while in college while completing his degree. Randy worked for Monsanto for 5 years, starting in southern

Arkansas, then moving to Atlantic for 2 years. He then took a job with American Cyanamid and moved to Ft. Dodge for 8 years, 2 years in Des Moines and another 3 years in Indianapolis.  Randy & Joanne moved to Atlantic in February, 1999 to live the good life of Iowa and to be near family.  Randy is Director of Procurement and marketing for West Central Cooperative, which has its home office in Ralston, Iowa.  Joanne teaches the K-12 Talented and Gifted program in the Atlantic Schools.

Randy and Joanne met in Ft. Dodge.  Since they had both attended NW Missouri State at the same time, they were somewhat acquainted.  Randy remembered a distinctive winter coat and her Farrah Fawcett hair style when their paths crossed in Ft. Dodge.  Their first date took place in a restaurant, where they shared breakfast together.  They were married on July 30, 1988, in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarinda. It was the hottest day in the state of Iowa that day with temperatures reaching 100 degrees and the church did not have air conditioning.  But it was a great day.   They honeymooned in Jamaica.

Their children include Kyle, 25, graduated from Iowa State and is working as a draftsman for an architectural firm in Des Moines.   Kari, 22, graduated from Central College.  While in college she studied abroad in Granada, Spain, and Merida, Mexico.  Kari is currently attending Antioch University of New England in Keene, New Hampshire, working toward a Master’s Degree in Conservation Biology.   As part of her schooling, she will spend 2 ½ years in the Peace Corps, tentatively in Nicaragua.

Joanne and Randy’s travels have included trips through Randy’s employment, including trips to Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and many locations in the US.  They also visited Kari when she was in Spain and Mexico.   They hope to do additional traveling in the future. Randy would still like to visit Alaska and visit every state in America.

The Sandages have been active members here at Zion, where Randy joined the church through adult confirmation with Pastor Hellwege.   Joanne has taught Sunday school, served on the Christian Nurture Committee and played in the Bell Choir.   Randy has been an Elder and served as Stewardship chairman. In the community they started the soccer program in Atlantic, did some coaching, and served on the Little League Board.  Joanne is currently the 8th grade volleyball coach.  Randy is on the Chamber of Commerce board, where he was an active volunteer supporting Atlantic Fest this year.  Randy and Joanne both like sports and playing golf.   Randy continues to hunt with his dad and Kyle at the farm in Dunlap and Clarinda.   The Sandages enjoy spending time at their house on Lake Panorama with family and friends during the summer months.

We thank them for their involvement at Zion and wish them God’s blessings in their future lives together.
