Kids Come First

Kids Come First  (712-243-7797) Open from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m.

I want to thank my staff for the great job that they did when they took the kids to the splash pad on Friday, June 29th.  That was the day that the storm came up when no one was expecting it to.  The kids and staff had been at the splash pad for an hour when the storm hit.  They were able to get to the bus safely but then when the sirens went off went to the bathrooms there at the splash pad.  The driver of the SWITA bus called the court house in Walnut to find a safe spot for our staff and kids to go to.  They went to the school and hung out there until the storm was over.  They did an awesome job in keeping our kids safe and calm.  Our trainings do come in handy when needed.

The children also attended Vacation Bible School the week of July 9th form 9:00 to 11:30am

The kids enjoy doing arts and crafts.  In the first picture Aaliyah is painting with the kids and in the second picture, Liz is doing a science experiment.  We also made witness bracelets for Ellie Menz and tied bandages using white sheets.  If anyone has white flat sheets that they no longer need we will take them.  We cut and tear them into three to four inch strips and then roll them up.                                                Director, Alice Davidson

Open from 5:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Kids Come First has had a very busy summer so far.  On days when it is not raining we enjoy being outside.  We are very anxious for the playground to get done.  We are waiting for the cement to get poured for the tricycle track.  After that is done we will be putting down landscaping paper and then rubber mulch.

We have gone to Sunny Side Pool to go swimming and on Thursday, June 28th, we are going to the splash pad in Walnut.  We look forward to those times when we can play in the water.  There are also some days when we are able to play in the sprinkler and do a slip and slide here at Kid’s Come First.

Miss Aaliyah has been having fun doing face painting with us.  She has been very creative doing our faces.  This picture is of Lynsie having a tiger painted on her face.

We have been walking to Schuler each day for the free lunch program.  We have not had too many days when we are not able to walk and need to have lunch down at Kids Come First.  Thank you Mrs. Alice for providing lunches on those days.

Cross Roads (Formally Cass Incorporated) has been doing our grocery shopping for us each week.  They enjoy coming down and seeing the kids.  After they are done with grocery shopping they have read to the kids.  Thank you Cross Roads for doing this.

Kids Come First News June 2018

Open from 5:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Monday – Friday

The Kids are excited for summer to start and not to be in school.

We are planning many activities for them to do to keep them busy but to also have some fun.   Some of the things that we are planning are to walk to the library each week, go swimming, go to the splash pad, walk to Schuler to play on the playground as well as doing activities, crafts and play games.

We will walk to Schuler each day to take advantage of the free lunch program that is put on by the school.  We will also be going to the library for some of the activities that they will be having.

Playground Update:  We are waiting for the cement to be poured for our tricycle track.  When that is done we will be able to put down the landscaping paper and the rubber mulch.  We are able to do this project through grants that we have received, donations from the rotary club and Delta Zeta.  We are looking forward to having it finished.

Conversations at breakfast can become very interesting.  One child started out about God and how old he is.  From there we had a conversation about what God does for us and how he is with us all the time.  It also was talked about how God made us.  One little girl talked about God being married.  We talked that God was not married but created man from dust.  It is great to know that we do have an impact on these little lives.

February 2018

We are open from 5:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The kids have been busy working on making things for Valentine’s Day.  Come down and see all of our art work that is hanging up on the walls.

During the cold weather we have been playing board games, playing games as a group, and reading books.

In February we will be doing a bake sale Feb. 12th – 14th.  We will have Valentine cookies and brownies that the kids will be making.  We are trying to raise funds to help with our playground.

We still have openings for children ages three to twelve.  If anyone is interested or knows of someone who is in need of child care please let us know and we can get them more information.

Kids Come First

Open from 5:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

We have forty children enrolled in our daycare program.  We have approximately twelve children that come in the mornings before school.  They are served breakfast and then ride the bus up to school.  We have six children at this time that are here at some point during the day with the possibility of three more starting this next week.  After school we have days where we have up to twenty children that come from school.

After school the children are given a snack, helped with homework, and then given time to play or do activities.  We love to play outside on these beautiful fall days.

We are looking forward to having some things done to our playground.  We are also looking for some new or gently used toys.

Now that school has started it is a little quieter during the day.  We do have children that are here for most of the day.  They are kept busy with doing activities such as playing with playdough, reading to them, doing crafts, playing games, and going outside.  They are also learning their shapes, colors, counting, letters and most of all how to play together.

The Kids Come First kids are picked up at the school and ride the bus down to the church.  When they arrive at Kids Come First, they are given a snack, helped with homework and then kept busy with activities.  With the nice weather we are enjoying being outside as much as possible.
