June 2017

As a child, I remember watching a short-lived Hanna-Barbera Saturday morning cartoon entitled “Sealab 2020” which was about 250 people living in a research laboratory in the ocean. While I was fascinated with the whole concept, I remember thinking that it was so far into the future and when 2020 came up that I would be… so old. Well… with 2017 flying by and almost half done, it definitely doesn’t seem so far off and I find myself wondering where the 45 years went. James 4:14 reminds us: “What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. ”

Looking back on recent events, I wish to thank Thrivent for the funds for our Confirmation and High School Graduates receptions. Also, thanks to J &J Custom Graphics for again imprinting the Confirmands’ names and Confirmation Bible Verses on their stoles at no cost. Also thank you to all our teachers and those who support them.

As 2017 speeds by, we look forward to our Vacation Bible School July 10th to 13th. Special thanks to Denise Sharp and Janet Klute for again organizing our VBS. This year our college-aged Counselors will again be from Camp Okoboji. Also, Friday, June 2nd, is our Progressive Dinner at Church; the Weekend of June 3rd & 4th will include a Bake Sale for our Relay for Life team (Relay for Life is Friday June 23rd); June 11th we will have Voters Meeting after Sunday Service; and on Sunday, June 25th, we have been invited to a Joint Service with Holy Cross at Lake Anita, and also that day at our normal Sunday morning service we will be installing our new officers as well as our Fellowship Committee hosting a Church Picnic at Noon in the Atlantic City Park.

As you enter this summer/vacation/farming busy season, remember to make worship of our Lord a priority – Jesus never takes a vacation from loving and forgiving us. Psalm 90:12 states: “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Our days of life are short; I pray we all have a strong faith and eternal life waiting for us “By Grace” in Jesus our Christ.

See you in Divine Service.
