Why is Zion Lutheran here? What is the purpose of our existence? Jesus told us at the end of the Gospel of Matthew: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” He tells us our tools include Baptism, teaching God’s Words, and trusting God’s presence among us. Here in Cass County and throughout the world we are about the business of making Christian disciples using Word and Sacrament, the means of grace. To do this we share with others and strengthen one another in faith.
C.S. Lewis famously described the church as “the only organization that exists primarily for the benefit of non-members.” This speaks to the reaching out and sharing part of making disciples. But we also need to share with one another and help each other grow in faith. Jesus told us: “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Our Stewardship approach in November is a challenge for each of us to grow in God’s grace and our response to God’s mercy. Our 2017 capital campaign with LCEF will also be about growing in God’s grace and responding to assist those not able to use our church building very well because of the lack of handicapped accessibility. Being able to attend Divine Service is an important part of growing as a disciple of Jesus. Please keep these projects in your prayers.
See you in Divine Service,
